IASA History

On Saturday April 17, 2004 the Iowa Assembly of Surgical Technology (IASA) held its first ever business meeting at the Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa. Thirteen active members, nine students, and five others started the committee that would eventually grow to over 400 active members currently in the state.

The new committee elected its first officers and board members. Rebecca Moore motioned to elect Dana Grafft as President, Renee Nemitz as Vice President, April Buckley as Secretary, and Karyn Finn as Treasurer.

Dana Grafft's first role as President was a motion to elect Rebecca Moore, Julie Baxter, Sally Moritz, Sue VanderVeen, and Peggy Ridenour as its first Board of Directors.

In May of 2004, The IASA received its official National Chapter at the AST National Conference in Washington, D.C. The IASA has maintained a delegation at the annual AST National Conference, bi-annual IASA State Workshops and Business Meetings, and has produced a gradual increase in active membership.
